Identifying At-risk Students in Videoconferencing and Web-based Distance Education

Abstract
Based on the multivariate framework of student attrition developed by leading researcher, this study centers on a method of assessing the ability of a student to complete a distance learning course. Focuses on construction and validation of a survey instrument to identify at-risk students enrolled in Web-based and videoconferencing courses.

This dissertation explores what indicators are posed by students who successfully complete online coursework. This question is spurred as a result of the high attrition rate of students participating in distance education. While predictable variables indicate academic success such as GPA and credit hours taken in a semester, previous experience with online and distance education also influences completion of distance and online courses.
